Forty Five: Happy Birthday Tupac

Images Source Google: Tupac as Bishop from the movie Juice

I was at work earlier this week and I  work with a lot of younger co workers in their early to mid twenties and they stress about getting older. Some are quick to call someone old who is 29 years old or older. I laugh and chuckle at them a lot and they ask why do I laugh? I laugh becuase they don't how much getting older is a gift and living full life is awesome. I never stressed over age being that neither one my parents made it to their 50th birthday. If we all knew what our fate was, would we worry about getting old?

Today would have been Tupac Shakur 45th birthday, that is right twenty years ago he died at the age of 25 years old. If anyone is familar with Tupac music, he rapped about his fate quite often and on his 1995 album "Me against the world" through out this album he wrestled with his soul. Take the song "So Many Tears" He rapped verses like "I know my destiny is hell where did I fail?, I painted a picture of my enemies killing me in sleep. I have visions of leaving here hearse, when I die baptized in eternal fire, To embrace an early death nothing left, Please lord forgive me for my sins becuase here I come"

At twenty three, twenty four years old Tupac had already seen his fate, he didnt have the chance to worry about getting older. That probably would have been a luxury for him, to sit and stress about turning 30 or 35, being a father, progressing in his career. So as this younger generation worry about become old and irrelvant, Tupac is now forever mortalized, he died young he will be twenty five forever, that seems ideal to be young forever but we didn't get to see him grow.

As much he rapped about death and destruction of his own life, I am pretty sure at some point he didn't want to have those visions. Growing up in an American inner cities, for some young black males they feel that making beyond the age of twenty five is a stretch of the imagination and Tupac was one of those young man who had that  thought process unfortunatley.

September 13th 1996 will mark the 20th aniversary of his passing, sit and let that marinate Tupac was killed three months after his 25th birhday. He only had 90 days left of his life after June 16th 1996. So if you knew that you only had that short amount of time after your birthday would getting older sound bad? 90 days is not enough time to get anything acomplished for the average person.

What I remember about the summer is that Tupac had a lot of turmoil in his life, he was going through his beef with Notorious B.I.G and the whole east coast vs west coast beef was in full effect. As I much as love 90's music and the culture it was some crazy days during that era. In a perfect world on the night of the Las Vegas shooting Tupac would had went to the Mike Tyson fight, not got into the fight in the MGM lobby, went to the after party at the 662 club the car with the shooters would have kept going, Tupac would have enjoyed himself and then went home to sleep.

In a perfect world that would have been ideal for sure but the world is not perfect and on that night Tupac fate was sealed. He went out like he envisioned as he spoke about in many of his songs, It would have been cool if rapped about seeing life at 45. But all we can do is listen to his songs and reflect back on a life that was cut way too soon.

So to any young readers that may be reading this blog, at the end of the day getting older learn to embrace it, it is a part of life lord willing.  You cannot stop time, it keeps going and that is a beautiful thing, learn to evolve,  adapt, change and move on.  Tupac didn't get to stress about getting older, and would have been great if he could have, maybe he will be here.

Happy Birthday and as always R.I.P Tupac Amaru Shakur

June 11th 1996 Mona Lisa released her debut 11-20-79

As I continue with my series of great albums of 1996, this album that I am featuring on this post is probably in my top 10 of  my top 100 favorite albums. I promise I will treat you all to that list one day soon, I have been mentally creating that list forever, as old albums stay the same, new albums come out so stay tuned. Anyway this album featured on today's post is an album that I still play on a regular basis to this day.

Movie soundtracks was big in the 90s, sometimes even bigger than regular albums, the Wayans brothers had this hilarious move called "Don't be a menace while drinking your juice in south central" a spoof on all the hood classic films in the 90s.  The soundtrack was even better, R&B singer Joe had one of the biggest hits that helped him become name in R&B. He had a song called "All The Things…

What's Going On?

Google Images: Devastation from Bomb Attack in Mogadishu, Somalia

I may talk about music and culture, It is my way to ease the pain with all the things I see going on in this world. But it is too much to ignore, last weekend there was bomb explosion in Mogadishu, Somalia. As of right now it has been reported that 300 lives has been lost due the terrorist attack.

I do my best to keep up with what is going on, whether it's in pop culture, local or national news. And with this recent terrorist attack. The one thing I don't see flooding up and down my time lines on my social media feed. Is  #PrayForSomalia, that is something that is very scarce across the feeds. But I bet your bottom dollar I can see the endless memes of bitches not being shit and its numerous likes.

That goes without fail, I posted a few links about this horrific incident and all I have heard is crickets. If I posted a joke and made fun of reality star. It would have been likes and comments galore. I am not tell…

I was sixteen years old in 1997, music was life back then for me, and in that year I needed it more then ever, My freshmen year of high school was 1996 - 1997 and during that school year I was at a school I did not want to be at. In the city of Buffalo at that time, during 8th grade year students had to pick the top choices of the high school they wanted to go to. It was all based on grades during 7th grade year and first grade quarter of 8th grade.

Math was my weakest subject, and the schools that I chose at the time a student had to excel well in the area of math. And me not being on my A game it caused me to loose out on all of my choices of the schools I wanted to attend. So in fall of 1996 I was at my district school. While all my Jr. high friends was at the school of their choices living the high life.

I had to make a daily trip to south Buffalo, a place I did not want to be, what kept me calm to and from schoo…
