In Review: The Grammies

It has been a busy week, so I want to touch on some things that  has happened in the week, so here we go!

Grammy Week!

The Grammy awards recently passed this week on Feburary 15th and I sat and watch the show, and want to share this. It was an deeply boring award show, this award show has never been the off the chain type of show and I get that. However man they could have done a little spicing up, just a tad bit.

Kendrick won five out of eleven of his grammy nominations for "Best Rap Performance, Best Rap, Sung Collabration, Best Rap Song. Best Rap Album." So he pretty Much Swept the rap catergory and it was well deserved. Some may feel for the fiasco the grammy's created a few years back where Kendrick was beat out by mackelmore. This is the grammy apology for that, however you look at it, To Pimp A Butter Fly was a good album and Kendrick deserve it.

His perfomance though! If folks was mad about Beyonce superbowl performance, then some probably fell dead when the they seen Kendrick performance. That was a powerful and definitlely high light of the night. The songs collaborations of Ellie Gould and Andra day was good, and the duo of Tori Kelly and James Bey was also  good match up as well.

Stevie Wonder and Pentatronix tribute to Maurice White of Earth, Wind and Fire was truly dope to say the least. and speaking of Tori Kelly, she should have won best new artist, but I guess popularity will always win, I guess.  Ms Taylor Swift and her win for album of the year, 1989 was a big album of 2015, the bad blood song and video created the term "sqaud goals" but man out of all the awards Kendrick won I would have like to seen him get album of the year.

Aside for the award win it was the speech Taylor made that stole the show, in regards to the recent lyrics from Kanye West Life of Pablo where he says "I made that bitch famous" and states prior to the album coming out, that Taylor was aware of the line coming out and they laughed about it and she was cool with it.

Well after her award win I don't  think a conversation has ever happened, Swift went on to say:
"As the first woman to win album of the year at the Grammys twice, I want to say to all the young women out there: there are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame.

But if you just focus on the work and you don’t let those people sidetrack you, someday when you get where you’re going, you’ll look around and you’ll know it was you and the people who love you who put you there and that will be the greatest feeling in the world" ~ Taylor Swift

I have to give the girl credit, whether a conversation between her and Kanye happened or not, as a woman I totally agree with what she said. Since 2009 at the MTV VMA, things was never the same for her or Kanye since he interupted her and took the spolight from her after winning the award that night.

Has her notoriety rised up a notch or two after that?

Yeah I would say so in regards to putting her on the radar of those folks who was not paying attention to country pop music.  However she worked hard to get to that point and continue to grind even more after the VMA incident. With or without Kanye Inteference Taylor was going to blow up regardless. The speech has been in the making for a very long time, I guest revenge is a dish truly best served cold.

Now something that truly annoyed me with the grammies this year is that the R&B Catergories was not televised. On the way home I seen the winners earllier in the day and all the R&B trophy's was already handed out.

R&B is truly now the step child in music.

It would have been nice to see Lelah Hathaway get her award, or at least a  look from the nominees faces would have been good to see damn. And the Weeknd winning most of the R&B awards, for a song and an album, that should have been all up and through the pop category. I like the guy and all I have his EP's, but damn Best Urban Comtempory album, I was not feeling that c'mon son.

Well the music nerd in me has always something to say about the art form and it award shows, until next time.

P.S. Congrats to D'Angelo for his award wins and to Alabama Shakes well desevered, and Jazmine Sullivan should had gotten a trophy " Reality Show" was an amazing album"
